Historical Event on 5/18/1912
Narayan Govind Chitre, with the help of R. P. Tipnis and Cameraman Johnson, produced a 8000 ft. long theatrical film 'Pundalik', which was directed by Ramchandra Torney alias Dada Saheb Torne. The entire film was shot in a theatre at Mangaldas Wadi in Bombay, where the Sangit Mandali, a professional theatre group, was performing a play 'Pundalik'. The film was released on May, 18 in the Coronation Cinematograph at Girgaum, Bombay.

5/22/1961	Jnanpeeth Award was instituted and the first award was given in 1965. 6/3/1993	K N Venkatasubramanian,IOC Chairman, suspended for leaking information about oil purchase plans to international dealers.
2/4/1990	Ernakulam was declared the first totally literate district in India.
2/17/1670	Shivaji won SinghGarh Fort from Mughals. This victory was on the shoulders of Tanaji who was martyred in this attack. Shivaji proclaimed ""Garh Aalaa Pan Singh Gela"" which means that Fort was won but the Lion was lost.
1/14/1990	India and Maldives scrap visas.
