Historical Event on 12/9/1946
The first meeting of Constitutional Committee Assembly was held in Parliment after a gap of two years, 11 months and 17 days. The Congress started its work of framing the Indian Constitution. Muslim League boycott failed to prevent Constituent Assembly opening. From 16th August 1946, the country witnessed communal riots on an unprecedented scale. At this crucial juncture, on 20th February 1947, Clement Atlee the British prime minister, fixed June 1948 as a deadline for transfer of power and Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the new Viceroy.

2/2/1788	Pitt's Regulatory Act was was introduced to modify the Indian Administration and put further controls on Government of India after the 1784 Bill.
10/16/1905	Bengal was partitioned by Lord Curzon on the pretext of it being too big to administer. Instead of dividing it on the basis of non-Bengali areas, the division was on the basis of Hindus and Muslims. Britishers thought that would succeed in increasing Hindu - Muslim tensions. The tremor of partition was felt throughout India and was regarded as an insult and challenge to Indian Nationalism. A movement was launched by the moderates. New method of protests 'Swadeshi and Swaraj' became the slogan of the common man and the whole of India was drawn into the national movement.

3/18/1915	British Government approved Indian Security Act to have greater control on the Indian people.
6/5/1999	The Army releases documents seized from three Pakistani soldiers in the Batalik sector to substantiate its claim that Pakistan regulars are involved in the Kargil conflict.
7/15/1980	Gajanan Vishwanath Ketkar, editor of `Kesri' and `Maratha', passed away.
10/30/1949	Pramond Venkatesh Devidas Mahajan was born in Mahaboobnagar (Andhra Pradesh).
6/4/1997	Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This became inoperable due to power bus anamoly since Oct. 4, 1997. It was launched by European launch vehicle, Ariane from Kourov in French Guyana.
1/1/1932	Publication of Marathi Newspaper 'Sakal' started.
