A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in the year 2004. Being among the topmost classical and fusion artists in the country, he can be ranked along with Pandit Ravi Shankar in popularizing the Indian Music in other parts of the world. He is ranked as "A TOP" grade artist by All India Radio (AIR). Gopalnath has had several widely successfully dabbled in regional film music as well, one of which was with tamil flim director K. Balachander, in his flim "Duet" which had A. R. Rahman as its Music Director.
