Nuts are the dry fruits or seeds of some kinds of plants, usually trees. They contain anticancer and heart-protective properties. The soft inside part of the nut is the meat, or kernel, and the outer covering is the shell.
Nuts are a concentrated food source of proteins, unsaturated fats, B-complex vitamins, vitamin E, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper.
Some readily available nuts are pecans, filberts, peanuts (regulate insulin and are estrogenic, but of any food, are the most likely to trigger an allegeric reaction).
Brazil nuts (rich in the antioxidant selenium), Walnuts (cancer fighter, omega-3 source, and cholesterol reducer), Almonds (help reduce cholesterol), and cashews.
Patients with Parkinson's disease have been found to have a lack of nuts in the diet prior to contracting the disease.
